Tracking nursing: On the Nurses Registration and Tracking System
India's national nurse registration system is failing, with less than a third of nurses enrolled despite critical healthcare resource needs. The seven-year-old tracking system has registered only 14.24 lakh of 46.02 lakh nurses. Stark regional disparities exist, with federal tensions and state councils resisting central portal migration cited. This fragmented system delays inter-state transfers, distorts resource deployment, compromises patient safety by enabling fraud, and hinders emergency mobilization. Integrating all nurses into a unified national portal is crucial for effective healthcare management and safety.
