Mint Quick Edit | Car-buyers are turning over a green leaf: EV charging infrastructure needs a boost
Indian auto consumers are rapidly shifting from petrol to cleaner fuels like CNG, hybrids, and electric vehicles (EVs). A study shows a 16% rise in passenger vehicle sales, with clean energy sources now accounting for 42% of sales, surpassing petrol. While CNG and EV shares grew, EV sales need to outpace CNG and hybrids more heartily. This trend is partly due to ethanol-mixed petrol anxieties. The expansion of India's battery-charging infrastructure is crucial for widespread EV adoption. Hybrids are a valuable interim step towards fully electric mobility, but charging networks require accelerated growth to achieve this worthy goal.
