For new energy, remove old bottlenecks
India's Green Energy Corridor Phase-III scheme is vital for its green energy transition, aiming to address transmission bottlenecks and integrate 135 GW of renewable energy with 50 GWh battery storage. Despite impressive RE deployment, past issues like curtailment due to grid constraints persist. The new scheme strengthens intra-state networks to deliver green power, tackling intermittency effectively. However, significant hurdles remain: land acquisition, right-of-way compensation, environmental clearances, and establishing viable business models for battery storage. Effective implementation requires Centre-state cooperation and overcoming fragmented decision-making to realize the corridor's full potential.
