Organise a fair organ transplant regime

India's National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation launched a national portal to unify organ allocation and enhance transparency, a much-needed step. This initiative addresses information asymmetry and promises a more accountable system. However, the portal also exposes deep-seated inequities, particularly regarding gender disparities where women are often donors but less frequently recipients, and geographical concentration of transplant access. Demand still significantly outstrips supply, fostering a black market. Comprehensive policy reform is crucial to ensure equitable access based solely on medical necessity, not socioeconomic privilege. The portal provides the architecture; policy must deliver equity for a fairer transplant system.
