Ravi Matthai, IIM Ahmedabad's first director, revolutionized Indian management education. He meticulously built the institution, emphasizing rigorous faculty recruitment and practical knowledge application. After transforming IIMA, he pursued rural development, establishing the "Rural University" in Jawaja to empower local artisans. This pioneering work led to co-founding the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA), with Verghese Kurien. Matthai's visionary leadership created two foundational institutions that profoundly shaped India's business and rural development, leaving an invaluable, enduring national legacy of immense excellence.
